The amount of corporate mismanagement that I see is horrendous. It is truly a Dilbert world.

I'm not talking about my employer, mind you. He's a really nice guy, and I know that the people at work appreciate him. They certainly like the way he's quick to provide positive feedback when people do something well. Some of my other bosses in recent years were also pretty good; in fact, a couple of them were genuine princes.

However, I've also seen managers who seem to think that their purpose is to catch people screwing up, and to correct them. In fact, this is a very common complaint --one which I've often heard from other people. Perhaps these managers are unaware of what psychologists have known for decades -- namely, that positive feedback is more effective than criticism alone.

Heck, I wish that more of them would read The One Minute Manager. This isn't a cure-all for managerial woes, but it's a start.
