Research, education, careers

If I were a wealthy man, I would attempt to establish my own research lab. I've been working in industry for a while now, so I would probably have to recruit some like-minded people with more extensive research experience -- those who didn't pursue an industrial route for a while.

I would so love to spend a few months immersing myself in details of circuit construction, motor control, electromechanical systems, mechanical design, and so forth. I'd also like to read up on micromechanical systems, optical systems, computer vision, artificial intelligence, biologically-inspired robotics, distributed biorobotics, and the like.

At the same time though, I'd like to learn so much about languages and philosophy. Also history, economics, and maybe sociology. I'd even like to learn more about the business world, although this is something that I used to scoff at in my younger days. At the time, I didn't realize that the business world can present its own intellectual challenges, and that it can also be a productive way to benefit mankind. Perhaps it's because all of the business students that I knew appeared to simply be in it for the sake of raking in big bucks, as opposed to enjoying the challenges of crafting a proper business plan and turning a dream into reality.
