Beer drinking and health

During one of my college PE classes, the instructor said that there was SOME evidence that having one beer per day could help improve one's cardiovascular health. He didn't say that the results were conclusive; merely that there was some evidence to suggest this might be so.

One guy in our class, a fairly inarticulate fellow, piped up and asked, "What if instead of having one beer per day, you drink a whole lot of beers once a week?"

My eyes rolled. I had always know that this fella was no scholar, but still, such a question betrayed an incredible amount of ignorance regarding basic science.
