Memories

I remember an exercise in the second grade where we were all asked to write about our favorite television show. Virtually everyone in my class wrote about "The Six Million Dollar Man." I was not allowed to watch TV during weekdays though, so I wrote about some Saturday morning children's show.

The whole class laughed, which was a bit hurtful. The worst part, however, was that the teacher acted as though this was funny as well. As an educator, she should have known better.

Other memories? I remember watching WKRP and how disappointed I was that I couldn't watch it on a regular basis. In later years, I remember trying to set the timer on our Betamax recorder, for which I got chewed out by my mother. "What if it catches fire???" she asked.

I remember the old Filmation cartoons. I remember watching The Mickey Mouse Club in the 70s (two versions -- the B&W 50s era and the short-lived 70s clan). I remember being accelerated to the second grade, and how I didn't exactly receive a warm welcome from the older children. I remember being vaccinated against smallpox. Oh, and I remember reading The Three Investigators whenever I could.

I remember the warm hugs that I received from my younger siblings. I also remember the cruel taunts of my cousins, and how my parents and other family members refused to tell them to knock it off. Instead of blaming the taunters, they had a habit of blaming the victim for not being patient enough.
