HSBC again

Let me rant about HSBC again.

I ran into problems when I accidentally tried to transfer funds to a USBank checking account that I had closed months ago. That's why they locked my bank-to-bank transfers. When I called to straighten things out though, the customer service rep said, "Oh, we can't do anything right now since we're trying the transfer again."

Excuse me? They knew that the USBank account had been closed; in fact, they told me that they knew. So why were they attempting a transfer again, thus tying up the resolution process? If they were concerned that there might have been some mistake, wouldn't it be better to contact the bank and/or the customer and verify whether the account was truly closed?

When I pointed this out to the poor customer service rep, he said, "Well you see, it's our policy..." I interrupted, "Yes, yes, yes. I know it's your policy. What I'm saying is that it's a foolish policy. Why in the world would anyone try transfering funds to an account that you know has been closed?"

On the one hand, I understand that this poor rep has a stressful job and is just trying to do his best. He was also fairly pleasant about this whole deal. On the other hand, I don't think he understood the nature of my complaint. Darn it.
