When pranks step over the line

An old classmate of mine posted some photos on the web. To cut a long story short, they're from a time in my undergrad days when some classmates decided to commemorate an event of questionable taste. This was a situation wherein somebody decided to pass around a fake exemption list for a final exam, and he managed to trick a bunch of people -- including me.

At the risk of sounding like a partypooper, I think that certain practical jokes are in extremely poor taste. This is one of them. You do NOT make up fake school documents and pass them around, especially when it comes to exam exemptions. Final exams are extremely important, after all. What happens if somebody decides to change all of his study plans, thinking that he isn't getting the exemption that he expected? Or worse, what if somebody decides to go home, thinking that he was exempted when he wasn't after all?

And let's just say that the nature of their commemorative event was in extremely poor taste as well. I won't discuss that any further, since certain wounds are best left unopened.

I will say, however, that I would never hire any of these instigators, nor would I ever choose to do business with them -- not unless they were to clean up their acts.
