Pair programming is overrated

I once interviewed with a company that was gung ho about the whole Extreme Programming methodology. This naturally included the infamous "pair programming" paradigm.

I need a job rather desperately back then, but looking back, I'm glad that I didn't wind up working there. I think that Extreme Programming (XP) is extremely overrated. It takes a bunch of ideas that are sometimes good, then melds them together uncritically. So what if these techniques are sometimes helpful? That doesn't mean that they're always a good idea, and I know that I'd be severely hampered by them.

You can never convince me to adopt pair programming, for example, unless I absolutely had to. Ugh.
